Petracca Suffered Punctured Lung and Lacerated Spleen
Melbourne superstar Christian Petracca is recovering in hospital after undergoing surgery to repair a punctured lung and a lacerated spleen suffered during the team's clash with the Western Bulldogs on Sunday.
Petracca was taken to hospital after suffering a heavy hit to his ribs late in the first term. He was subbed off early in the second half as the Demons went on to win the match by 58 points.
The 26-year-old is expected to remain in hospital for several days. The full extent of his injuries is still being assessed, but it is hoped that he will be able to return to training in the coming weeks.
Petracca's injury is a blow to Melbourne, who are looking to maintain their top-four position in the AFL ladder. The Demons are scheduled to face the Brisbane Lions at the Gabba next Sunday.
